At this stage, it's important to define the scope of our coordination. Simply put:

To determine the scope, BIM Coordinators should consider these key questions:

• Are we focusing only on model geometry (model coordination) or also verifying data accuracy in the models (data coordination)?
• Will we check if spaces meet design requirements (space validation)?
• Do we need to validate clearance between model elements? For example: Is a duct blocking access to an air handling unit maintenance point in a machine room?
• Should we verify that all model parameters are applied correctly according to information requirements?

Answering these questions at the start of the coordination process will help us:

✔ Build proper checking rules in Solibri (more on this in the next step).

✔ Create effective search sets in Navisworks (which we’ll also cover next).

Your homework

As I mentioned at the beginning of this guide, we will focus only on clash detection.

For this, we will check clashes between Architectural, Structural, and MECHANICAL models.
